At the beginning of a design project and at moments throughout the process, interior designers like Laetitia Laurent of Laure Nell Interiors, welcome fresh ideas and new collaborators. Laetitia, who is based in South Florida, has been prepping for Design on a Dime Miami 2019 which opens on February 1. This December she was in major luck as Miami brimmed with art, architecture and design happenings. Casacor Miami was one of the unique shows that provided inspiration to fuel her focus. Here is Laetitia’s account:

Casacor Miami is a beautiful show and is perfectly at home during Art Basel week, flirting with that space between interior design and installed art, forcing designers to push the boundaries. Having just celebrated its second year stateside, Casacor, curated by Jessica Acosta-Rubio, comes to Miami after great reception in Brazil and also brings together architects and designers in Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Peru. This was my first time attending and I was blown away by the ingenious experiential design.

The overarching intent of the Casacor show was Urban Oasis and the crucial role nature plays in our man-made surroundings, from materials to pattern and color. Particularly as Casacor featured tranquil spaces and landscaped sculpture gardens nestled against the urban backdrop of Brickell City Centre in downtown Miami, the vibrancy of the nature-meets-décor aesthetic was even more obvious. There was a panther sculpture marching on a wooden platform, for instance, that felt completely not out-of-place amid the urban jungle. Oddly enough, this isn’t too different from my creative intention with my Design on a Dime Miami vignette.
