On Friday I went onto Nancy Ganzekaufer's Weekend Wine Down Facebook Live show. Here is a link that will take you to our video session. I challenged designers who were watching, to figure out where I had situated myself for the interview. I gave out several clues, dropping names like Michael Berman and Xander Noori. I said that I was in NYC and that I was sitting on a faux mohair sofa designed by someone who shared my JD initials (ahem... Jamie Drake). Eventually someone guessed Theodore Alexander ane they were correct.
Nancy and I talked about the highs and lows of my personal career, going back to school for Interior Design, all of the fabulous industry friends we have in common, and of course, the new look and feel of Designers Today and how designers, decorators, home stagers, product designers, manufacturers and anyone else working in the design, home furnishings and related fields can pitch stories for the magazine. I would also add that I'd love to hear from students working towards a career in the field too as you are designers tomorrow. There is a Submissions tab at the top of the DT website and this takes you to our forms.
I ran down a list of many of the types of ongoing story ideas that I am currently looking for such as Leap, Mentor/Mentee Relationships, New Openings of Showroom and Designer-Owned Retail shops, etc. A full list and further descriptions are in this "Call for Submissions" blog that was highlighted in the last newsletter. (Follow this link to sign up for The Designers Today bi-monthly newsletter as well as any of the other Progressive Business Media titles that interest you. Designers Today is second on the list. Simply unclick the check mark in the box next to "Subscribe All" to make your selections.)
As it is my goal to create a beautiful, interesting, educational and emotionally compelling magazine, your voices are necessary. I look forward to hearing from you.
