Kelli Ellis is a consummate pro at blending business and fun. Whether she’s playing the role of American Ambassador for Maison et Objet, furniture designer, inspiration seeker, mom or daughter, loving what she does for work makes the road more traveled all the sweeter.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD THE BUG?
My parents instilled the bug. We planned a trip every year, overseas and across the U.S., we always had a plan. I went to school in London, married an Australian, gave my children dual citizenship, so my fate as a wanderer was sealed by age 20! As a family, we still plan a trip all together every year. My mother lives for it!
IS TRAVEL ALWAYS PART OF A DESIGNER’S LIFE?
Traveling for work is the best in my opinion. As entrepreneurs we are never "off" really...so blending time with friends while working feels natural to me! My daughter lives in Barcelona (born with the bug) so I am shopping with her, for clients and blogging all at the same time - per usual. I imagine if I didn't love my job, turning it off would be important - but I LOVE what I do, so I never feel like it's work.
HOW HAS THE IPHONE CHANGED YOUR TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?
I am nothing without my iPhone while traveling — as I write this from the train, between Villanova and Barcelona, made possible by the Rodalies App! I use all available apps to help me navigate, buy tickets, manage timetables, book excursions and reservations....a la iPhone which is also connected to my iWatch that I use for navigating around town, vibrating at every turn I need to make!
WHAT IS THE PLACE YOU KEEP GOING BACK TO AND WHY?
Spain is my favorite country, so I feel the need to step on the soil every time I'm in Europe. My husband and I lived in Barcelona for a little while and fell in love, then our daughter moved there, so it feels like home.
A PLACE STILL ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
I just call it The List (a touch less morbid) I really want to Safari with the family - definitely on The List!
