Stiltz Group launches Tardis-like home lift

The lift has a noticeable ‘Tardis’ time machine feel to it, although Doctor Who fans might be disappointed to learn it cannot travel through time like actor Peter Calpaldi, who plays the 12th Doctor.

KINGSWINFORD, England -- A UK-based company has created a stunning 'Doctor Who TARDIS-like' lift for use in the home.

The Stiltz Group launched the LiftonDUO from their new Lifton Home Lift range. It is a luxury lifestyle product aimed at homeowners who are looking for a more convenient way of travelling between floors as an alternative to taking the stairs.

The LiftonDUO Home Lift travels on self-supporting stilts using discreet wire rope hoists that guide it safely and quietly on its journey. It has a compact footprint of less than a square meter but can carry up two people, and because of its clear walls, feels remarkably spacious inside.

Because of its small size and curved profile, it can fit discreetly into tight spaces or room corners. It can also be located in a stairwell, galleried landing or even a cupboard.

Technology plays a significant part in the development of the LiftonDUO Home Lift. Sensors fitted above and below the lift car detect obstructions and will smoothly stop the car. A battery back-up will power the lift to safety in the event of electrical outage.

There is no creaky Tardis-style entrance for LiftonDUO owners, though. They can choose from the option of a half-height door with the reassurance of a full-height safety light curtain, or a full-height door. The Lifton Home Lift features attractive, space-aged LED lighting at the top and bottom of the car for ease of use at night.

The LiftonDUO Home Lift starts from £16,000 and Lachlan Faulkner, commercial director of the Stiltz Group, says the idea behind it is to allow homeowners to 'future proof' their property at any stage in their lives. This enables them to carry on living a full life in the family home they love for as long as they want to without needing to worry about downsizing to a bungalow.

"The LiftonDUO Home Lift is a premium lifestyle product," said Faulkner. "We've worked hard on the design so it looks fantastic in both traditional and contemporary homes, yet is ultra-easy to operate. We're very excited about the LiftonDUO, the first lift from our Lifton Home Lift range. We expect it to be a real 'game changer' in a number of ways, especially as it breaks new ground in home lift design. We also hope it will help our customers enjoy the positive benefits of living life in their family home, for many years to come."
